What to Do in Shinjuku at Night

Shinjuku is one of the perfect neighbourhoods in Tokyo city to stay in if you're a first time visitor. Yes, after analysing details about where to stay in Tokyo, Shinjuku caught my eye. Shinjuku is a very easy place to get around by train or metro, not only that most of the neighbourhood's landmarks like Omoide Yokocho and Memory Lanes are available within walking distance from your stays. However, even most of restaurants, shopping centres and bars are even close to your hotels or stays.

But exploring Shinjuku at night time is the most underrated thing which is unknown to most backpackers. Sometimes visitors come to Japan to explore night things at Shibuya or Asakusa but they skip Shinjuku. Even today, thousands of skyscrapers, dazzling neon lights and bustling streets are the most attractive elements in Shinjuku to enjoy at night. Despite its eye-catching lights and bustling streets, we came with 5 best things which you can do in Shinjuku at night.

What to Do in Shinjuku at Night

1. Visit Omoide Yokocho

Starting your night journey in Shinjuku from Omoide Yokocho is a really cool idea. This is a place where visitors can get a number of narrow neon light alleys shining by the city's popular red lanterns and yakitori grills. However this Omoide Yokocho is a narrow alleyway lined with izakayas and restaurants and eateries on both sides of your narrow passageway. Each time when you passing its alleyway you can be much fortunate to taste regional influenced dishes in a more nostalgic atmosphere.

2. Enjoy Kawaguchiko Night View

If you are looking to get the perfect night of Fuji active stratovolcano, then reach vantage points of Kawaguchiko. From Kwaguhiko visitors could watch a more magical night view of Mt. Fuji through starry skies and town lights. Its lake is even more clear, majestic and calm during the night which reflects the lights of surrounding buildings. Visit during the winter season when you can enjoy star gazing and more lights behind Mt. Fuji. Its series and snow-capped views bring cameras while packing their backpacks.

3. Experience Golden Gai

Another vibrant place in Shinjuku to spend our time at night. Golden Gai is a place filled with unique bars and pubs with eclectic themes making it a great choice to enjoy lively nightlife. Over 200 bars ranging from jazz and punk rock and anime memorabilia are lined parallels one by one. Drink vibrant beer options under its colorful light effects. However Golden Gai’s one of the special features is tiny bars, where more than 10 people gather and allow patrons to mingle with other people.

4. Climb Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observation Deck

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observation Deck is a great place to see 360 panoramic views of Tokyo’s skyline and other landmarks like Tokyo Tower and Mt. Fuji (especially during night). While you reach the top of 202 meters high during night time you’ll be very fortunate to enjoy Tokyo Nights, Tokyo sky tree and major night light shows. Visit during sunset time for magical lights and this helps you to reduce crowds in elevators.

5. Visit Sucia’s Penguin Park

Located near Shinjuku Station, Sucia’s Penguin Park is always filled by the romantic illuminations and perfect place to get views of Tokyo’s skyline at night. This is a small plaza featuring Sucia Penguin Mascot that illuminates DOCOMO Yoyogi buildings and allows us to watch scenic views of bullet trains and neon city views. If you're tired from a busy and bustling night journey, then visit Sucia’s Penguin Park at night time and spot with benches and foliage to get out from your stress.
