Torch Lake Sandbar
Torch Lake, Michigan is a beautiful and unique lake located in the
Northern Lower Peninsula of the U.S. Torch Lakes one of the interesting facts
is its sandbar, considered as the most spectacular geological feature
especially near to the Antrim Country. Due to its vast coverage of sands and
shallow regions, sandbars open up too many recreational activities to the
backpackers.
Location
Torch Lake Sandbar is located in the northern part of the Lower
Peninsula, United States which is very close to the Torch Lake. Since the lake
is recognised as the state’s largest and most beautiful inland lake in the
United States, Sandbar has witnessed many outdoor activities, camping options,
and unique geological formations.
How is the Torch Lake Sandbar Formed?
The Torch Lake Sandbar was formed between 10,000 15,000 ago, especially
during the last glacial period. During that period the river carried a large
volume of melt water which formed a large delta. River transfers melt water
carried a huge volume of sands and continuously filled the area of the lakes
shore separating Lake Skegemog from present Torch Lake. But over a period of
time, due to wind and water erosion further shaped the area into more
interesting, leading to one of the most beautiful landscapes in the U.S.
Camping in Torch Lake Sandbar
There are multiple camping options available near Torch Lake, and each of them offers basic camping equipment like Rv’s and Tents. It is very important to choose campgrounds near the water areas, where visitors can take activities such as swimming, fishing and kayaking.
1. Bellaire Campground
Bellaire Campground is a most preferred and offers exciting camping
experience. Located near the city of Bellaire, offers facilities like showers,
electricity and Rv’s hook-ups. Take a short drive from the Torch Lake,
campground offers more stunning beautiful beaches and surrounding areas.
2. Barnes Park Campground
Known for its more unique style, Barnes Park campground offers some of
the most unique camping experiences with perfect beach views. Located on the
shores of Lake Michigan, includes amenities such as modern campsite,
accommodating tents, RVs, and trailers. Visitors can do activities like soak up
the sun, spend time on the beach and take a refreshing swim, take sunset views
and activities in crystal clear water.
3. Torch Lake State Forest Campground
Another interesting campground located on the eastern shore of the Torch
Lake. Forest campground is one of the perfect choices to take lake panoramic
views and other basic amenities. No prior reservation required here, so, those
who come first can pitch their tent here and indulge in an activities such as
making a campfire and enjoy forest views.
How to Get to Torch Lake Sandbar?
Majorly there are many transportation modes available to Torch Lake
Sandbar. But we recommended taking airports and rental vehicles.
For international visitors they can choose nearby airports like Cherry Capital Airport, which is 45 miles from Torch Lake, offers domestic flights and car rental facilities on site and Gerald R. Ford International Airport, which is 168 miles away from Lake, receives both domestic and international flights including rental services.
Due to convenient to drive and plenty of car rental services, many visitors choose driving either rental one or owned from airports through major highways and interstates.
Despite these 2 options, visitors also take public transportation to Traverse City and then take rental car services or taxis to reach Torch Lake.
