Komodo National Park is a stunning national park welcomes visitors from its
diverse range of biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Located in the centre of
East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Established in 1980, Komodo National Park
consists of three larger islands, such as Komodo, Rinca and Padar. Park is 472
km away from “Bali, Indonesia”, known as a World famous destination.
Park spans a total area of 1,733 square km, and is home to “Komodo Dragon”, world’s largest Lizard. Despite that, the park is renowned for its diverse range of flora and fauna and marine species, making it one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and one of the world’s 25 biodiversity hotspots.

Where is Komodo National Park?
Komodo National Park is located within the Lesser Sunda Islands of the
East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. Considered as the national park in
Indonesia, comprises 3 major islands; Komodo, Padar and Rina.
Komodo National Park Animals
1. Komodo Dragon
National park’s prime attraction Komodo Dragon is considered as the
famous inhabitant animal, which can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh over 150
pounds. Visitors can easily spot these largest Lizards that are roaming around
the park, sunbathing and relaxing under the trees. At presents park holds
around 1,727 Komodo Dragons, visitors can easily take a close up view of these
Lizards in order to take a hike under the National Park. Interestingly these
are the fastest Lizards in the world which can run up to 20 km per hour.
2. Timor Rusa Deer
Timor Rusa Deer are an Indonesian native animal available through the
national park. Most of these Timor Rusa Deers are available to visitors while
walking through the main trail of the island. Its interesting feature is
changing color, during June to September, its Coat switch to reddish brown
color, rest of the periods its color changes to dark grey brown. If you want to
see baby deer’s, you need to be there during the spring season.
3. Water Buffalo
Often known as Asian Buffalo or Water Buffalo, which can stand upto 6
feet tall and having largest horns. Considered as the largest bovines and some
of them live groups and some of them live few. Also known as “The Living
tractors of the East”, visitors can easily spot parks famous islands like
Rinca, Padar and Komodo Island. Interestingly, buffalo are used in a few
villages for milk and strength.
4. Snakes
There are around 10 unique species of snakes available to explore.
Komodo National Park is known for many dangerous snakes like Lesser Sunda Pit Viper. Visitors can see bright blue scales that offer some of the magical
appearances to visitors. Russell's viper is another most dangerous snake,
it looks like different shades of brown, and they huff and puff with a
huge amount of air in its long body.
5. Macaque
Macaque in Komodo National Park with the nature of eating fruits and
seeds, smaller in size, usually hanging on trees and they are crab eating
animals. They grow 24 to 26 inches tall, which will help to balance between
swings from treetops. People of Indonesians and local hill village people
believed these macaques are often linked with their spiritual beliefs and
having mythological significance in their local cultures.

6. Asian Palm Civets
Smaller in size, Asian Palm Civets belong to the Mammals categories. It
is hiding in mountain treetops and not easily visible to the visitors. Due to
its resembling small possums and strange features, it is also known as
“weasel cats”. If you want to see these animals you need to check holes, and
rock crevices while hiking in Komodo National Park.
7. Tropical Birds
Despite wildfires in Komodo, the national park is also home to many bird
species. Some of the famous bird species like Flores hawk-eagle, Wallace’s
hanging parrot and Leaf lorikeet are popular among them. Along with that,
visitors are also blessed to explore some of the colourful birds, and rare
migrant birds.
8. Marine Life

also a place where we can explore beautiful marine life beneath the water in

How to Get to Komodo National Park?
By Air
One of the easiest ways to reach Komodo National Park is through the
nearest major airport. Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, receives many
international airports from major cities in the world.
After reaching Bali, Indonesia, visitors have to take domestic flights to Labuan Bajo, a very close airport to the Komodo National Park. Flights like Wings Air, Lion Air and Garuda Indonesia are major flight runs between Bali and Labuan Bajo. These flights usually will take 1 hour and 30 minutes of journey to reach Komodo.
