Pink City Jaipur, India- History, Architecture and Popular Sites

 Jaipur City


Jaipur is the capital city of the one of the northwest Indian states of Rajasthan. Popularly called as “Pink City”, due to its predominant colors of cities buildings, palaces and overall architecture. One of Rajasthan's most populous cities, which attracts visitors even from overseas with its rich heritage cultures, architecture and many ancient forts and buildings.

One of the interesting features of this city is its color, which attracts tourists especially from its terracotta pink walls. Perfect examples for this color of buildings are Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal.


Let's discuss Jaipur city even deeper in order to see its history, architectures and many beautiful sites;



1. History


When we talk about the history of Jaipur city, maybe it starts from ancient times. But it came to a shape as a city during the time of King Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727. He gave most of the present Jaipur architectures which all are based on the principle and worship of Vastu Shastra. 



2. Architectures


We should not forget to explain about the city's architecture, which all are witnessing brilliant and marvelous architectural works. Next level Forts, Mahal, Temples, Havelis, Palaces and Buildings built purely on the basis of Shilpa Shastra and Vastu Shastra. Due to its color of building and architecture, the city welcomes millions of visitors every year.



3. Amber Fort



Let's start Jaipur’s architecture from Amber Forts, nestled in the hilltop of Amber. It contains a series of gates and cobbled stone paths. However Amber fort also includes beautiful palaces inside and intricate art works and architectures. Its Maota Lakes are really impressive which supply water to the whole fort. There are many other sites available inside Amber fort to explore such as Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) and Diwan-e- Khas. 



4. Hawa Mahal 




Another site in Jaipur which is a perfect example of the pink color architecture. Hawa Mahal is a five story palace which is totally dedicated to Lord Krishna. Built by the Red and Pink sandstones, therefore it looks like a pink building. Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by Maharaja Pratap Singh, primarily built for Royal women's to observe street festivals. Another interesting feature is 953 small windows (Jhar Oaks), where you can see and explore the entire city of Jaipur and also take unique photographs. Therefore it is also often known as “Palace of Winds” and “Place of Breeze”.



5. Jal Mahal




You will be really amazed when you see Jal Mahal, which is really an engineering excellence. As we said earlier, architecture here is going to make it more interesting, Jal Mahal is one situated in the midst of Man Sagar Lake. It beholds from Man Sagar Dam, built in the 18th century and contains 4 floors and made by the red stones. Remember it is not allowed inside the palace to visitors.



6.  City Palace




City Palace built by the king Sawai JaiSingh 2, located in the ideal location of Jaipur city. The palace is labelled with an incredible complex of both Rajput and Mughal architectures. Despite that, the palace also includes many things like Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, gardens, courtyard and museums. It is the home to the last ruling Rajput royal family, those who lived in some private sections of this palace. 



7. Jantar Mantar




Jantar Mantar is truly co related to the astronomical aspect which was built during the 18th century. Unlike Delhi Jantar Mantar, it is considered as the monumental observatory instruments normally used to find and study celestial bodies and timekeeping's. If you see the exact meaning of Jantar Mantar it could be “Instrument for Calculation”, considered one of the largest stone sundials in the world. The Jantar Mantar, Samrat Yantra, Chakra Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Rama Yantra and Dingash Tantra are other instruments available to study.
